Piano with Forest: A Harmonious Blend of Music and Nature

Creating a Joyful and Relaxing Dining Experience

Inspired by the desire to bring joy and happiness to urban dwellers, designer Kai Wei Lin has created a unique and enchanting restaurant concept called Piano with Forest. This innovative design combines the elegance of a piano with the tranquility of a forest, creating a harmonious space that connects people with nature and music.

The Piano with Forest restaurant is not your typical dining establishment. It is a smile-inducing building that aims to redefine the concept of a joyful space in the heart of the city. The design concept revolves around the idea of using a piano as the central theme, symbolizing the universal language of music that brings people together. Additionally, the incorporation of a forest element adds a touch of greenery and serenity to the bustling urban environment.

One of the standout features of Piano with Forest is the outdoor space, where visitors can walk gracefully on oversized piano keys, creating a playful and interactive experience. The natural sunlight filters through the steel structure and the glass windows, casting ever-changing shadows that dance around the interior, adding to the enchanting ambiance.

The main wall of the reception area is made of titanium metal, creating an elegant and sophisticated space. As guests enter the central atrium, they are greeted by a glass door with a laser-cut tree trunk pattern, symbolizing the connection between the urban environment and the natural world. The sky-bridge on the second floor allows couples hosting wedding receptions to receive blessings from their guests seated below, adding a touch of romance and intimacy to the space.

The realization of the Piano with Forest design involved the use of innovative techniques and materials. The ground of the main walkway and entrance area features a unique wooden-like printing, created using a pure handmade process. This technique, the first of its kind in Taiwan, was inspired by the famous "God Tree" in Alishan, Taiwan. The use of glass windows allows natural sunlight to flood the interior, providing a visual connection to the surrounding natural scenery.

With a total of three stories and covering an area of 1752 square meters, Piano with Forest is a testament to the designer's vision and creativity. The challenge of integrating music with spaces was successfully overcome, resulting in a space that is both visually stunning and functionally harmonious.

Piano with Forest was completed in March 2017, following months of construction in Taichung, Taiwan. The design has received recognition for its excellence, winning the Iron A' Design Award in the Interior Space, Retail, and Exhibition Design category in 2018. This prestigious award is a testament to the innovative and practical nature of the design, as well as its contribution to creating a better world.

The intent behind the Piano with Forest design is to create a modern and relaxing space that takes advantage of the urban environment while incorporating natural elements. This unique restaurant concept aims to provide guests with a sensory experience that goes beyond just food, immersing them in a delightful and fragrant atmosphere. By seamlessly blending music and nature, Piano with Forest offers a truly exceptional dining experience.
